Elizabeth Berger explained to Entertainment Weekly that she and How I Met Your Father co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker were excited to take on the reboot of How I Met Your Mother. Berger said, "We were huge fans of the original. Isaac and I went to college and we lived in New York together, but we've never really gotten a chance to tell that chapter of living in New York in your twenties."The reboot and the original share a common theme about being a young adult searching for love and relying on friends who become like family. While the reboot has yet to have a holiday-themed episode, How I Met Your Mother has seven Christmas episodes that are all ranked fairly highly on IMDb.
"The Over-Correction" (S8 E10): 7.9 Barney looking serious in How I Met Your Mother The season 8 episode "The Over-Correcfion" finds the characters stuck in closets. Ted and Robin don't want Barney to see them as Robin is upset about Barney and Patrice dating and they have been snooping. Christmas is in the background of the whole storyline as Ted and Patrice are going to decorate a tree.

Barney and Robin's HIMYM romance has several tropes, and whether or not viewers support their relationship, it's hard not to get swept up in the drama of the time when they're apart. It's easy to want Robin and Barney to make up given how sad they both seem to be broken up. The episode is fairly popular with a 7.9 out of 10 rating."Little Minnesota" (S4 E11): 8.0Marshall singing at a bar in How I Met Your Mother The season 4 Christmas episode "Little Minnesota" has a higher rating of 8 and explores how much Robin misses celebrating Christmas in Canada. Barney and Robin spend time at a bar where everyone the Robin Sparkles hit "Let's Go To The Mall." While Robin doesn't love this reminder of being a pop star, the storyline is funny and quirky. The episode shows the characters getting into the festive spirit. It's nice to see Barney trying to help Robin feel better and this proves that she helps him become a more compassionate person. While Barney does still act immaturely throughout the sitcom, he does have moments of caring about other people."How Lily Stole Christmas" (S2 E11): 8.0 Lily on the phone in How Lily Stole Christmas

"How Lily Stole Christmas" also has an 8 out of 10 IMDb rating. The storyline is memorable: Lily decorates the apartment for the winter holidays and then listens to a message on the answering machine from when Lily and Marshall were going through some relationship issues. Ted insults Lily and viewers famously don't hear the actual word as the characters say Ted referred to Lily as a "grinch."This can be proof of why Lily and Ted aren't really friends on HIMYM. But it's a beloved episode that shows that even strong, long-term friendships can have problems sometimes. Marshall's love for Christmas is charming and his excitement over Lily bringing out the decorations shows his kind personality and childlike innocence."False Positive" (S6 E12): 8.1Ted holding a gingerbread house in How I Met Your Mother Ted gets into the spirit when he and his friends are going to see It's A Wonderful Life. He holds a delicious-looking gingerbread house as it's tradition to bring festive food to this screening. The main storyline is Marshall and Lily's disappointment over a pregnancy test that was a false positive. Everyone feels terribly for them and they, in a relatable plotline, wonder if they can handle parenthood.

While HIMYM has some great filler episodes, "False Positive" is an important and meaningful look at getting ready for the next stage of life. Viewers know that Marshall and Lily will be great parents if this is the road that they choose, but their nerves and fear are understandable.
"The Final Page: Part One" (S8 E11): 8.4 Lily, Marshall, Barney, Robin and Ted at the bar in How I Met Your Mother While the second part of this hour-long episode is where Robin and Barney's romantic and unforgettable engagement happens, the first part is meaningful as well. It's rated one of the highest on IMDb at 8.4 out of 10.Robin wants to let Patrice go as she's envious of Patrice and Barney's relationship, but tries to be the bigger person and let this go. She has no idea what's coming next, which is a smart storyline as it makes the proposal more epic. The episode also has a funny plot when Marshall puts a "Jinx" on Barney who then makes sure that Ted releases him from the game.
"The Final Page: Part Two" (S8 E12): 9.4 Robin and Barney on the rooftop in How I Met Your Mother

In part two, Barney asks Robin to marry him. Christmas is the backdrop for this dramatic plotline. Robin goes to the apartment rooftop and sees part of the playbook that Barney uses called "The Robin." While she discovers that he still loves her and wants to be with her, she's nervous about his behavior and intentions. The two do get engaged and they're both thrill ed for this next step in their relationship. While many HIMYM scenes foreshadow Barney and Robin's divorce, it's still sweet seeing these characters realize that they have strong feelings for each other that they can't ignore. Since Christmas is such a magical time, it's smart to have the couple commit to each other during this season. Viewers can't forget this scene on the roof."Symphony Of Illumination" (S7 E12): 8.7 Robin looking emotional with Christmas decorations in HIMYM

"Symphony Of Illumination" has an 8.7 out of 10 rating on IMDb and is the highest-rated How I Met Your Mother Christmas episode. While it's set during the winter holidays, it's about Robin learning from her doctor that she won't be able to have children biologically.Robin goes on an emotional journey. She thinks that she's pregnant and wonders about her life path, then has trouble coming to terms with what she has been told. It's one of the saddest episodes of the sitcom. The episode title comes from Ted creating a beautiful Christmas light display because he wants to show Robin that he cares about her and will always be there for her.
